Biotechnology and Food Safety
Our Biotechnology Center develops new technology in the fields of biologics such as vaccines, bacterins and proprietary products such as probiotics and test methods. It also has the ability to develop and produce vaccines for Riemerella anatipestifer (RA), Duck viral hepatitis (DVH), Duck virus enteritis (DVE), Escherichia coli, Salmonella enteridits, Salmonella typhimurium and Streptococcus.

Our Center also leads the industry in the development and production of MLF Biotech branded products, such as our proprietary blend of health-promoting probiotics under the LivPro® brand and our revolutionary ToxiScreen® total toxin screening test for grain, feed, and finished food products. Maple Leaf Farms has been applying these technologies for almost 20 years and as a result we have virtually eliminated the need for antibiotics, as well as improving the food chain and duck performance through the reduction of toxins that are naturally occurring in many raw materials.

Our Biotech Center also incorporate regular testing of all production inputs and finished products under our USDA approved HACCP program for both raw and cooked products.

We offer testing services and consulting as well as distribution and/or licensing opportunities for certain products and technologies.

Nutrition and Analytical Technology
In order for premium Maple Leaf Farms ducklings to reach their maximum profit potential, they must receive the proper nutrition during growth. Maple Leaf Farms will work with you to provide nutritional base feed mixes that can be economically combined with feed ingredients common to your area, license formulations and/or processes, or even provide finished breeder or starter feed if economically viable and within regulatory policy.

We use advanced computer based least cost feed formulation to optimize the blend of available ingredients into a recipe that meets our nutrient specifications.  We also use near infrared reflectance technology to analyze our feeds and ingredients. This ensures that the feeds meet our ducks’ nutritional requirements established through our research and field experience.

By analyzing the variation in the ingredients, we can control the variation in our finished feed and deliver consistent performance in the field with our breeding and growing stock.

Diagnostics
Our Diagnostic Laboratories provide services related to tests for duck health with pathology and microbiology services.  We routinely conduct diagnostic tests for Avian influenza (AI) and Riemerella anatipestifer (RA) and other pathogens that impact duck performance. 

Our Diagnostic Labs also conduct testing on raw and deep processed food products for food borne pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella enteridits, Salmonella typhimurium, E. coli, and other spoilage bacteria to ensure food safety.

Our Research Services provide the opportunity to evaluate inputs into the INDUX® System and collect accurate response data on areas such as:
